WORTHINGTON — A vehicle careened out of control late Sunday afternoon on East Ninth Avenue, driving through a backyard and shed and eventually coming to rest after striking a tree and deck.

The incident occurred about 5:15 p.m. One witness at the scene reported the driver of the vehicle and his passenger attempted to flee the scene after their vehicle stopped, but were chased down by other witnesses. The Worthington Police Department was soon at the scene, and at least one of the two was apprehended.

One of the two suspects was seen by a witness taking a breathalyzer test, and the recorded result was approximately twice the legal limit of .08. That individual was then arrested and taken into custody.

Mark’s Towing removed the vehicle, an Oldsmobile Alero, from the scene. The deck, located on a Clary Street property, incurred minor damage, while the shed — located on an East Ninth Avenue property — was a total loss. No injuries were reported.
