EDGERTON -- Edgerton is having its 62nd town celebration starting today and running through Saturday night.

"Everyone from the area looks forward to the Dutch Festival," said Vanessa VanDam, head of parade planning, "We enjoy what we do, and we hope everyone enjoys themselves."

It would be hard not to have fun this weekend in Edgerton. With activities stretching from tractor pulls to soapbox races, car shows and bull riding, the Dutch Festival has all of the modes of transportation covered.

"We decided to add the lawn mower tractor pull this year because we like to have something new every year," VanDam said. "Also, it's nice to have another big event after the parade."

Friday's jam-packed nature doesn't mean Edgerton is relaxing Saturday. Breakfast at the city park starts at 7 a.m. and events don't cease until 15 hours later, when the festival culminates with a fireworks display.

"Saturday's a busy day," VanDam said. "But we like it that way."

One of Saturday's main events on the schedule, the car show, will take place on Main Street and last from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

"We're really proud of what our local area can put together," VanDam said in regard to the car show. "Our car show is definitely a nice one."

The Dutch Festival's parade theme this year is "Happiness is..."

"Happiness could be anything," Van Dam said. "Some homemade floats show Boy Scouts to show what happiness is. There really is a wide variety of what makes people happy, and we'll see all of it during our two-day parade."

The parade starts at 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday and has attracted big crowds in past years.

During the parade and throughout the day, vendors will be available. Serving hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and pop, Edgerton's food festival has the four basic food groups covered. Also, a beer garden will open at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
