Edwin Wittry, age 82 of Lismore, passed away Friday at the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. Visitation will be 4-7 pm Tuesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lismore, and funeral service 10:30 am Wednesday at the church.
Ed was born Dec. 30, 1931 on the family farm near Kenneth, Minnesota, the son of Nick and Frances (Wilberding) Wittry. He grew up on the farm and attended country school. Ed served in the United States Army from 1951-1954 during the Korean War and following his active duty discharge, remained in the Army Reserve until 1960.
Ed married Jan Buss on March 2, 1957 in Barrington, Illinois. They moved to Lismore where Ed farmed and worked for the Lismore and Wilmont Elevators for a number of years. In 1971, he was farming full time. Ed and Jan moved to Adrian in 1996 but Ed continued to farm part-time. He loved getting out to the farm and having something to do every day. Ed only quit farming because of his failing health.
He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he previously served on the parish council, and a 60 Year Member of the American Legion Post 636 in Lismore.
He is survived by his four children, Lezlee (Larry) Roemeling of Adrian,MN, Brett Wittry (Jayne Kathman) of Kenneth, MN, Kevin (Carolyn) Wittry of Delano, MN, and Jodi Bank (Doug Olson) of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Morgan, Macey, Kaitlin and Scott; two great grandchildren, Addison and Jayla Jo; four siblings, Bob Wittry of Lismore, Doris (Don) Brake of Wilmont, Arleen Knipps of Lakeville, MN and Judy (Jim) Bauer of Lincoln, NE. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jan in 2003, a brother-in-law, Earl Knipps and daughter-in-law, Melissa Wittry. www.adrianfuneralhome.com
