WORTHINGTON -- Landwehr Construction Inc., St. Cloud, worked on demolition of the former New Vision Co-op elevator Tuesday afternoon.

Current elevator owner Stuart Carleton said Tuesday entire elevator would be demolished over the next few days.

The Worthington City Council approved the action during its April 25 meeting requiring Carleton to tear down the original wood portion of the structure by May 15, as well as granting a one-year extension for the potential development of a climbing facility and requiring Carleton to escrow $50,000 toward demolition of the remainder of the elevator. Worthington Mayor Alan Oberloh said Tuesday afternoon that Carleton wasn't interested in fulfilling the escrow requirement of the council edict, and opted to raze the entire elevator as a result.
