Ellsworth earns No. 1 seed in Section 3A South boys' basketball tournament
WORTHINGTON -- Entering with a 21-2 record overall and a No. 5 ranking in the state polls, the Ellsworth Panthers earned the No. 1 seed Wednesday in the Section 3A South boys' basketball tournament.
Ellsworth, which travels to Worthington tonight, has a first-round bye and will play the winner of eighth-seeded Fulda and ninth-seeded Murray County Central.
The Raiders and the Rebels will play in Edgerton at 7:30 p.m. March 5.
Adrian, which suffered a heartbreaking loss to Ellsworth Tuesday, is the second seed, and will play the winner of Edgerton (seventh seed) and Red Rock Central (10th seed).
Edgerton and RRC play in Westbrook at 7 p.m. on March 5.
Southwest Star Concept (sixth seed) will face Round Lake-Brewster (11th seed) in Edgerton, starting at 6 p.m. the same evening.
The winner will advance to face third-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove earned the No. 4 seed and will face fifth-seeded Southwest Christian on March 7.
The winners of the first-round games will play in Worthington on March 7, with games starting at 1, 2:30, 4:30 and 6 p.m.
Section 3A quarterfinals are scheduled to take place in Worthington on March 12.
Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin is the No. 8 seed in Section 2A South and will host Martin Luther March 5.
In Section 3AA, Martin County West earned the No. 1 seed and will host Luverne March 7.
Fairmont is the No. 2 seed, while Windom is the No. 3 seed and will host sixth-seeded Jackson County Central March 7.
Pipestone Area is seeded No. 4 and will host fifth-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
The winners will play in the section quarterfinals March 12 at a site to be determined.
