EUGENE "GENE" FERMAN GOEBEL, age 58, of Worthington, died Thursday, November 14, 2013, at The Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born November 11, 1956, in Sibley, IA, to Odilo and Angeline (Penning) Goebel. Gene grew up in Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School in 1975.

Gene married Mary Parker on April 22, 1978, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. After their marriage, the couple lived east of Rushmore where Gene worked on the farm for Bernard Thier. In 1985, they moved to Worthington. Gene was an over the road truck driver. He drove his own truck and drove for Warner Trucking. He enjoyed driving truck and farming with his father west of Worthington. On June 18, 1993, Gene was involved in a semi-truck accident near Grand Island, NE. He received numerous injuries which left him paralyzed.

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary Goebel, Worthington; three siblings, Boni (Mike) James, Dousman, WI; Harvey Goebel, Worthington; and Jorja Goebel, Worthington; and many nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Goebel; and a nephew, Kenneth Goebel.

A time of fellowship will be from 2-4 pm Sunday, with a rosary service & parish prayers beginning at 4 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. James Calahan. A private family interment of cremains will take place at a later date at the Worthington Garden of memories Cemetery in Worthington.
