Ex-bank official pleads guilty
JACKSON -- A former banker charged with embezzling more than $100,000 while employed as the retail operations manager at United Prairie Bank of Mankato awaits sentencing after a guilty plea Tuesday.
Carolyn Faye Hampel, 65, of Jackson, pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement by a bank officer in federal court in St. Paul. In her plea agreement, Hampel admitted to embezzling the bank funds over a period of six and half years through August 2011. She also admitted to using the stolen funds for her personal use.
Hampel now faces up to 30 years in prison. Her sentence will be determined at a later date by U.S. District Court Judge Donovan W. Frank.
