Fareway helps fight illness

WORTHINGTON -- Fareway Stores sold colorful "Shamrock" mobiles Feb. 14 through March 17 to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association's quest to cure muscular dystrophy and related diseases.

MDA's "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" program directly helps local families affected by diseases such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy and ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). "Shamrock" mobiles help support the association's worldwide research program, MDA's national network of 225 hospital-affiliated clinics and also help send children with muscular dystrophy to barrier-free local MDA summer camp.

At the heart of the "Shamrocks" campaign are $1 and $5 mobiles that Fareway customers buy and sign, and then are prominently displayed. This year, Fareway Stores' 98 locations in Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota raised more than $100,000.

To learn more about the mobile campaign, call Marie Stricker at the Worthington Fareway, 372-5191, or the MDA's Jill Chapman at (515) 453-9489.
