Fire damages home in Luverne
LUVERNE — The Luverne Fire Department responded to a call for a house fire at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of Evergreen Drive.
According to Luverne Fire Chief David Van Batavia, the cause of the blaze is still unknown. An electrical fire is suspected.
“There was a spot in the ceiling that was burnt through, and there was a spot in the floor as well,” Van Batavia said. “We’re not sure if an electrical fire started in the ceiling, or if it started in the floor and worked its way up to the ceiling.
“Right now we’re still waiting for the insurance company to come and assess everything,” he added.
As far as the house being habitable again, Van Batavia stated it will take a lot of work.
“There’s a lot of electrical wires that have been burnt up, so right now there is no electricity in the house,” he said. “It’ll take a lot of work to get it liveable again.”
The house had been empty for a period of time while up for sale. However, the home had been purchased, and the fire occurred while the new owners were moving in.
“The house was empty in a way since it was up for sale, and the new owners were moving in, and wanted to stay the night in the house to finish moving in (today),” Van Batavia said.
No one was injured during the fire. The Luverne Fire Department stayed on the scene for over two hours.
