Fissiha, Thuringer bring home victories at state meet
ST. PETER -- Amanuel Fissiha and Emma Thuringer, both of Worthington, did their part at the Hershey's Track and Field state meet Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus College. Now, they must wait to see if it was enough.
Fissiha won the 800-meter (2 minutes, 22 seconds) and the 1,600-meter (5:1.58) in the Boys' 13-14 division and Thuringer won the 400-meter dash (1:11) in the Girls' 11-12 division and will be informed no later than July 11 whether or not they qualified for the Hershey's Track and Field national meet in Hershey, PA., in August.
Thuringer also finished 10th in the long jump and third in the 200-meter dash (31.86 seconds).
Other competitors representing Worthington were Meredith Moore, Arekel McLaughlin, BenLopez, Blaine Doeden and Davis Moore.
Meredith Moore finished second in the 1,600-meter run (6:00) in the Girls' 13-14 division and Davis Moore finished fifth in the 800-meter run (3:06) in the Boys' 11-12 division.
McLaughlin finished eighth in the 100-meter dash (15.79) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (34.67) in the Boys' 9-10 division, while Lopez finished 12th in the 100-meter dash (15.40) and 11th in the 200-meter dash (33.12) in the Boys' 11-12 division.
Doeden finished fourth in the Boys' 11-12 division 800-meter run (3:04).
Davis Moore, Lopez, Doeden and Karosharo Ojulo finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay (1:14).
