Flying Dutchmen bounce Wildcats, Cardinals take a pair from Tigers

EDGERTON -- DJ Berning scattered four hits and did not allow an earned run in leading Edgerton past Southwestern United 4-1 Tuesday in a Red Rock Conference baseball game.

Berning threw all seven innings, while walking three and striking out five.

Garet Rogers (pictured right) allowed four runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out three to take the loss for the Wildcats.

Ethan Blom was a perfect 2-for-2 on the day for the Flying Dutchmen (1-6, 2-9), while Brady Vanderwaal had a pair of hits and scored twice.

Alex Elgersma also had two hits for Edgerton, while Mason Russell had a two-run single in the third inning to give the Flying Dutchmen a 3-0 lead in the early going.

James Anderson had three of the four Wildcat hits, while Rogers scored the lone run on a throwing error in the fifth for SWU.

Edgerton will travel to Adrian Thursday, while SWU faces Murray County Central the same day.

Luverne 14, Marshall 1; Luverne 9, Marshall 3

MARSHALL -- The Luverne Cardinals used a 12-run third inning in Game 1 and scored early and often in Game 2 to complete the Southwest Conference baseball sweep Tuesday.

In the first game Brent Dinger allowed one earned run on two hits while walking four and striking out seven in a five inning complete game victory.

Taylor VanSanten had a trio of singles and drove in two, while Phil Paquette had two singles and scored a run.

Zach Olson had a double and drove in three runs, while Adam Ossefoort and Jeremy Hoff each had an RBI. Tanner Skattum and Zack Clark each had a hit for Luverne (9-5).

Andy Ogdahl suffered the loss for Marshall, allowing six earned runs in three and two-thirds innings.

Taylor Hedman scored the lone Tiger run in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Olson allowed three earned runs while striking out eight in a game that was called in the fifth inning due to inclement weather.

Olson (three runs scored) helped himself at the plate with three hits and five RBI, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Dinger (three RBI) also had three hits, and had a two-run home run in the third inning.

Clark had a hit and scored three times for Luverne, which hosts Worthington Thursday in another conference match up.
