Free tax prep service to be offered
WORTHINGTON — Free tax preparation services will be available for Minnesota returns only through a service set up by the Nobles County Integration Collaborative from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Fridays.
Taxes will be prepared by trained volunteers at the former West Elementary in room 126. Hourly appointments will be available on Mondays beginning Feb. 10 and all of March as well as April 7. Times will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Because of President’s Day, taxes will be done on Feb. 18 instead of the previous Monday. There will be additional appointments available on the Thursdays in March at 9, 10 and 11 a.m.
Individuals should bring the following to an appointment: copy of last year’s tax return; W-2 forms from each employer; unemployment compensation statements; SSA-1099 from Social Security; All 1099 forms (i.e. 1099-INT, 1099-DIV); 1099-R’s for pension accounts; Social Security for self and all dependents; picture ID; a check or account numbers for savings if direct deposit or withdrawal is desired.
If itemizing, bring documentation (cancelled checks, receipts) of all donations, medical expenses, taxes paid, etc.
Rental or real estate documentation for 2013 should also be brought if applying for a refund. The tax refunds cannot be applied for in February. Rental refunds can be applied for if there is documentation from the landlord.
