Friday power outage affects city
WORTHINGTON — A brief power outage in Worthington on Friday afternoon was due to a downed transmission line, according to Scott Hain, general manager of Worthington Public Utilities.
The downed line put a substation on the east side of town out of commission, which in turn drew down power on the west side and causing some flickering of the electrical current. WPU workers located the problem and were able to circumvent the system to get power restored to affected customers.
“It was not our system, but our system enabled us to create a little work-around for it,” said Hain.
Great River Energy will have to send out a repair crew, Hain noted, and once the line is put back up, the electrical flow will return to its normal configuration.
