As newlyweds they lived in Worthington for a short time, then moved to California to work in the ship yards and defense plants. Later they moved back to the Brewster area and farmed until 1967. They built a house outside of Worthington and Gilbert sold Sylvania TVs and repaired electronic appliances for many years. He was also a substitute rural mail carrier.
