Girls fast-pitch: 18U, 16U teams sweep TCU
MONTGOMERY -- Worthington's 18-and-under and 16-and-under girls fast-pitch teams were in action Thursday, the former traveling to Montgomery and the latter traveling to St. James, and both to play TCU squads.
The 18-and-under team won twice on scores of 4-0 and 7-4. Christine Kazemba pitched a shutout for Worthington, allowing just one hit in seven innings while walking one and striking out seven. She also hit a double. Teammate Paige Kinley went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double.
In the second game, Kazemba again got the pitching victory, walking one and striking out seven in six innings. Kinley, Val Cano, Rebecca Kazemba, Jenny Majerus and Yadira Barragan all had a pair of hits.
The Worthington 16-and-under team also won twice, beating TCU rivals 9-2 and 13-6. Ida Rogers-Ferguson struck out six batters in the first game and earned the win. She also stroked two hits.
In the second game, Katie Rogers was the winning pitcher. Megan Kluever tripled in the game while Olivia Peterson, Cameron Kroh and Sam Obermoller all had two hits.
