Gymnastics: Luverne, JCC victorious at home meets
LUVERNE – Madi Schandelmeier won two events and Sam Pierce won two others to lead the Luverne Cardinals gymnastics team to victory over Marshall Thursday.
Luverne scored 128.725 points while Marshall tallied 115.3.
Schandelmeier won the uneven parallel bars event with a score of 8.00, and she took the balance beam competition with an 8.050. Pierce was first on vault with a score of 9.025 and first on floor with an 8.725.
Schandelmeier finished second on the floor exercise with an 8.500 and Pierce was second on beam with 7.550. Cardinal teammate Bergin Flom was second on the bars with a 7.550 and also on the vault with 8.950.
Redwood Valley at JCC
JACKSON – Host Jackson County Central eased past Redwood Valley 134.45 to 115.775 with a balanced team effort.
Haley Bass won the bars competition with an 8.4 while Brooklyn Schuett won the floor exercise with a 9.2. Teammate Abby Schneekloth was first on the vault (9.025) and another Husky, Baily Schneekloth, was first on balance beam with 8.15.
Bass and Schuett placed 1-2 in the all-around competition with 33.95 and 33.875, respectively.
All individual seconds went to JCC as Bass scored 8.75 on vault, Brielle Scheepstra scored 8.975 on floor and Schuett scored 8.125 on bars and 8.0 on beam.
Jackson County Central, which awaits a Feb. date in Jackson against Worthington which will determine the Southwest Conference champion, is 6-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
