EDGERTON -- Putting together a sustained drive -- on the ground -- late in the game, Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth scored with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter and edged Edgerton, 13-12, in a Southern Confederacy football contest Friday night.

The Patriots (2-0) gained 67 of their 112 rushing yards in the last quarter.

Casey Van Middendorp, who finished with 62 yards on 15 carries, capped the final drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge on fourth-and-goal.

Edgerton (1-1) had taken a 12-7 lead with 11:22 to play in the game when Jordan Gunnink caught a 22-yard TD pass from Alex Heard.

Marty Van Peursem, who paced the Flying Dutchmen's ground game with 79 yards on 18 rushes, scored the game's first touchdown on a 13-yard run.

H-BC answered with a 45-yard scoring strike from Caleb Ellingson to Colton Bass.

Brady Leuthold booted the extra-point, which ended up being the difference in the game.

Ellingson completed 5-of-12 passes for 79 yards.

Heard was 9-of-24 for 118 yards, including five to Gunnink for 65 yards.

Edgerton travels to Nicollet Friday, while H-BC/E hosts Cleveland.

W-WG 41, Alden-Conger 32

ALDEN -- Westbrook-Walnut Grove scored four touchdowns in the second quarter, as the Chargers rolled past the Alden-Conger Knights.

Josh Merrick rushed 21 times for 148 yards for the Chargers (1-1) on the ground, while Mason Comnick added 90 yards on 19 carries.

Derek Eichner was 14-for-23 passing for 180 yards, spreading the ball among four receivers.

Theo Johnson (four catches, 30 yards), Jace Jarmer (four, 28), Michael Jarmer (three, 66) and Comnick (three, 30) were all on the receiving end of Eichner aerials.

Merrick scored on a 64-yard touchdown and also had a score from a yard out.

Comnick, Eichner and Justin Knakmuhs each had 1-yard TD bursts, and Eichner completed an 18-yard scoring strike to Michael Jarmer.

Defensively, Eichner and Jace Jarmer each had a sack, while Johnson and Comnick both intercepted passes.

Eichner and Knakmuhs topped the W-WG tackle charts with seven and five stops, respectively.

Little Sioux Conference Adrian 27, Canby 6

CANBY -- Brett Nowotny threw for a career-high 110 yards and accounted for all four touchdowns to lead Adrian to a Little Sioux Conference football game Friday.

Nowotny completed eight passes and threw for two touchdowns, and had a pair of 1-yard runs to paydirt to lead Adrian.

Adam Diekmann was on the receiving end of both touchdown passes, as Diekmann caught four passes for 34 yards on the night.

Justin Wiedert had three receptions for 38 yards.

Jesse Brake had 120 yards on the ground, while Tanner Loosbrock had 62 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, Brake had 11 tackles, while Diekmann added 10 tackles for an Adrian defense that allowed 120 yards on the ground and seven yards in the air.

Adrian (1-1) will travel to Fulda Friday.

SLAYTON -- With 168 yards in the air and 104 yards on the ground from Isaac Dolan, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers came away with a victory against Murray County Central.

Dolan completed eight passes and rushed eight times, while accounting for four touchdowns, including a 91-yard touchdown run, to lead the Panthers (2-0).

Josh Hook had 76 yards receiving on three receptions, while Brandon Kirk had 42 yards receiving and John Swenhaugen had 40 yards receiving.

Dominic Dolan scored on runs of 36 and 46 yards for a T-M-B team that had 363 yards rushing in the game.

For MCC (1-1), Eric Wieneke had 25 yards rushing while Scott Beech had 23 yards on the ground.

Alex Peterson had seven tackles and a sack defensively to lead the Rebels, while Kyle Lewis had five tackles.
