Hady, Buttermakers shut out Irish
MILROY –– A two-run homer by Nick Bruning in the top of the third inning and a strong complete-game pitching performance by draftee Tom Hady were enough for the Hadley Buttermakers Friday evening in a 2-0 Region 13C amateur baseball playoff victory over the Milroy Irish.
The win advances Hadley (20-12) to next week’s regional semifinals, completing a two-game sweep of the Irish in the quarterfinals.
Hadley won Game 1 at Windom Wednesday, 11-7.
Hady, who pitches for the Jackson Bulls during the regular season, proved his worth as the Region’s No. 4 draft pick by tossing nine scoreless innings, including working out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth, getting the final out on a ground ball to second.
Eric Wieneke (2-for-5) was on base for the Buttermakers before Bruning crushed his shot over the fence.
Tyler Peterson, who was 3-for-5 to lead Milroy at the plate, took the loss for the Irish, pitching all nine frames, including eight shutout innings.
Fairmont, behind the 15 strikeouts of Pipestone draftee Brandon Alfson, blanked Minneota, 4-0, to sweep that series against the Mudhens.
