Hartley celebrates summer this weekend

HARTLEY, Iowa — Hartley, the city with a heart, is ready to celebrate summer at the annual celebration this weekend.

The three-day event opens this evening with a burger and hot dog bar sponsored by the Hartley Lion’s Club at 5:30 p.m. at the fire station. A beer garden also opens at 5:30 at the fire station. Antique fire truck rides begin at 6 p.m. south of Century Mutual. At 6:30 p.m., kids 8 and under can compete in the Little Miss Hartley/Mr. Muscle Contest at the fire hall.

Saturday offers a parade, games, bed races and two dances.

Friday

5:30 p.m.: Beer Garden at fire station

5:30-7 p.m.: Hartley Lion’s Club Burger/Hot Dog Bar at fire station

5:30-7 p.m.: Ice Cream Sundaes served by O&O 4-H Club at fire station

6-7 p.m.: Antique Fire Truck Rides south of Century Mutual

6 p.m.: Hartley Print Auction “Opera House” at fire station

6:30 p.m.: Little Miss Hartley/Mr. Muscle Contest at fire station

7 p.m.-Midnight: Dance with Music by Sound Choice at fire station

8-11 p.m.: Photo Booth at fire station

Saturday

7-9 a.m.: Masonic Lodge Pancake Feed at fire station

7 a.m.: Registration for 5K Run/Walk at Hartley Health & Fitness Center

7:30 a.m.: Hartley Fitness Center 1.5K and 5K Run/Walk at Hartley Health & Fitness Center

10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Ice Cream Stand in front of Vander Veen’s

10 a.m.: Parade starts (Includes Shriners “Temple Move”)

11 a.m.-2 p.m.: Hartley Daycare Food Stand at Neebel Park New Shelter House

Noon: White Horse Patrol Show at Neebel Park

12:30 p.m.: End of Dance: Beer Garden at fire station

1 p.m.: Bed Races on Central Avenue in front of Century Mutual

After Bed Races: Trike Races on Central Avenue in front of Century Mutual

After Trike Races: Free Throw Basketball Contest near Vander Veen’s

1-5 p.m.: Patch/Eeten House open for viewing

1-5 p.m.: Games downtown by City Hall

1-5 p.m.: Balloon Man and Face Painting by Savings Bank

1-5 p.m.: Dunk Tank north of Century Mutual

1-5 p.m.: Popcorn Stand in front of Jackie’s

1-5 p.m.: Free swimming at Hartley Swimming Pool

1:30 p.m.: John Krebs Recital at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church

2 p.m.: Bean Bag Toss Contest on Central Avenue

2 p.m.: Kids Pedal Pull in front of City Hall

2-4 p.m.: Cemetery Walk at Pleasant View Cemetery

2-5 p.m.: Car Cruise-In downtown on Central Avenue

6 p.m.: All School Reunion Supper and Short Program at H-M-S High School

8 p.m.-Midnight: Dance featuring the LeMars Jammers at Hartley Community Center

9 p.m.-1 a.m.: Street Dance featuring The Rude Band at Fire Station

Midnight-2 a.m.: Omelet Breakfast at fire station

Sunday

9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Omelet Breakfast
