SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The heat advisories have been canceled for Rock County, Lyon County, Dickinson County, O'Brien County and Osceola County.

9 p.m. Sunday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A heat advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 p.m. Monday for Lyon, Osceola and Dickinson counties in Iowa and Rock County in Minnesota. Additionally, an excessive heat watch has been issued for O'Brien County, Iowa, from 1 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Heat Advisory Information

Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid-90s Sunday and Monday afternoon, accompanied by dew points in the 70s. This combination of heat and humidity will produce heat index readings of 100 to 110 degrees. Conditions at night will provide minimal relief with heat index values only dropping into the 70s after midnight.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. People should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Excessive Heat Watch Information

Hot and very humid conditions are expected across the area Sunday afternoon through Monday night. The combination of heat and humidity may produce heat index readings of 110 to 115 degrees Sunday afternoon and again on Monday. Night time temperatures are only expected to drop into the 70s.

Temperatures are forecast to rise into the lower to mid-90s both Sunday and Monday, and will be accompanied by dew points in the mid-70s to near 80 degrees. This combination of heat and humidity will produce oppressive heat index readings of 105 to 115 degrees. Conditions at night will provide little relief as heat index values are expected to remain above 75 degrees.

An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. People should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
