The open house event has become a much-anticipated event by local businesses and customers. It is billed as a great way to kick off the holiday season and get a head start on seasonal shopping.

Amanda Walljasper-Tate, chairperson of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee and owner of Schafer's Health & Gifts, said many local businesses will be participating with treats, door prizes, promotions and special hours.

"All the local businesses are excited for the Holiday Open House," Walljasper-Tate said. "It's a chance to show off new products and to thank customers for their business."

According to Ryan Crowley, manager of Brown's Shoe Fit, the Holiday Open House is a way for people to do a bit of saving on their holiday purchases before Black Friday sales.

"It gives people from some of the smaller communities an excuse to come to Worthington and do some of their shopping early," Crowley said. Like many Worthington businesses, Brown's Shoe Fit will be offering hot apple cider, treats and special sales to their customers.

For specific store hours and promotions during the Worthington Open House, customers should check with local businesses or visit the Chamber website at www.worthingtonmnchamber.com.

This year, the Chamber is pleased to offer Shop Worthington Chamber Checks and will be giving away two $50 Shop Worthington Chamber Checks during the open house event. Customers can register to win the chamber checks at participating businesses, including: Ace Hardware, Brown's Shoe Fit, Center Sports, Johnson Jewelry, Crafty Corner, Hy-Vee, K & S Motors, Kruse Motors, Lit'l Wizards, Pizza Ranch, Schafer's Health & Gifts, The Stag Clothiers and Sterling Drug.

Chamber checks had been offered in the past and are once again available for purchase at any store that is a Chamber member. They are part of the Shop Local effort that encourages people to make their purchases in Worthington.

Walljasper-Tate said that chamber checks are a great gift option for local employers and businesses, and that they allow people to pick out what they want and spend their dollars in town. They are similar to traditional checks and can be used can be used at many Worthington businesses including grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and gift stores. For larger orders, the Chamber asks that advance notice is given to allow processing time.

In addition to Chamber's Holiday Open House event, the third annual Holiday Parade will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Spirit of Worthington Trojan Marching Band will be participating in the parade, along with many other lighted floats. There are currently 14 floats signed up, but Walljasper-Tate said the parade has been growing every year and many more entries are anticipated.

Lighted float entries are welcome as late as Tuesday and can be made by calling the Chamber at 372-1919.

Santa will be visiting Worthington to talk with local children about what they hope to receive for Christmas. He will be at Lit'l Wizards from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and will once again close the Tuesday holiday parade. Santa will also be in Worthington throughout the months of November and December at Lit'l Wizards, Pioneer Village and the Northland Mall.
