Interstate 90 closes from South Dakota to Luverne
MANKATO – The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol closed Interstate 90 from the South Dakota border to Luverne at 1:30 p.m. due to white-out conditions and a large number of crashes. I-90 will remain closed until further notice.
Motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the road.
Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.
State Transportation officials are also closing the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 from Sioux Falls Exit 395 to Salem Exit 364 effective immediately due to a large number of accidents blocking the roadway. I-90 WB will reopen when the accidents have been cleared and it is once again safe for motorists to travel.
