Investigation into shooting continues
LARCHWOOD, Iowa -- The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has made some progress in its investigation of a shooting that occurred March 4 in rural Lyon County.
According to a press release, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired at 6:04 p.m. March 4 at an ice shack near the Klondike Bridge. Two men fishing inside the shack heard shots, and one round came through the shack and struck the hip of Rob Johnson of Canton, S.D.
When the second man exited the shack, he saw four young males get into two vehicles -- a smaller green car and a red SUV, both with South Dakota license plates. Both vehicles fled the scene. Johnson was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D., for treatment of his injury.
Six high school-aged males have now been identified, and all but one have been interviewed in connection with the shooting.
On Friday, Derek Troy Bakken, 15, of Brandon S.D., was charged with one count of reckless use of a firearm, a Class C felony.
The final interview in the case was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, and a decision on further charges will be made by the end of the week.
