Iowa 86 work to begin Monday
CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Road construction work on Iowa 86 from the intersection with Iowa 9 north to the Minnesota state line will require closing the roadway to traffic beginning Monday, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Cherokee construction office.
During this project, traffic will be detoured around the construction zone using Iowa 9, U.S. 71 and Interstate 90 in Minnesota.
The $7.4 million Iowa 86 road construction project was awarded to Cedar Valley Corp. of Waterloo. This project is expected to take the majority of the 2013 construction season to complete.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
