Iowa girls basketball: G-LR, H-LP, Central Lyon move on in Regionals

GEORGE, Iowa — Host George-Little Rock got off to a fast start Thursday in its first round Iowa Region 1, Class 1A girls basketball game with Remsen St. Mary’s. The Mustangs came out aggressively in the first half to establish their inside and outside games and led 18-5 after one quarter, then 38-11 at halftime. They finally prevailed, 60-40.

Jessica Sandbulte led G-LR with 19 points and Teyha Graham added 17 points, including five three-point shots. As a team, George-Little Rock converted 24 of 52 field goals for 46 percent and were 6-for-12 from three-point range.

Danielle Eben pulled down 10 rebounds for the winners.

Haley Delperdang scored 10 points for Remsen St. Mary’s.

George-Little Rock continues in the tournament Tuesday against Akron-Westfield, which was a 57-48 winner over Remsen-Union Thursday.

Harris-Lake Park 72, West Bend-Mallard 59

LAKE PARK, Iowa — Noreen Morrow scored 24 points, Mikey Heikens had 14, and Katherine Ihnen and Miranda Brueggeman each had 12 to lead Harris-Lake Park over West Bend-Mallard. Morrow also had 12 rebounds in the game.

With the win, Harris-Lake Park moves to 16-6 on the season. The Wolves will play Graettinger-Terril-Ruthven-Ayrshire in the second round of the Region 1, Class 1A tournament Tuesday in Lake Park. G-T/R-A defeated Algona Bishop Garrigan, 54-47, Thursday night.

Central Lyon 56, West Sioux 36

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Angel Rasmussen scored 19 points as Central Lyon won its first postseason game over West Sioux.

Shaylee Struckman scored 12 points and Wynter Roths had nine points and 13 rebounds for the winners.

Amanda Mace scored 16 points for West Sioux.

Central Lyon continues in the tournament Tuesday against Gehlen Catholic of LeMars, which defeated Trinity Christian, 52-33.
