Iowa releases XC postseason assignments
The Iowa athletic associations released their assignments for Classes 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A for their 2013 cross country state qualifying meets. The meets are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 24.
In Class 1A, Sibley-Ocheyedan will compete at a meet in Hawarden, hosted by West Sioux. Twenty teams in all will compete in the meet, and the meet will be home to the second-ranked runner on both sides of competition. On the girls side, that is Leah Seivert of S-0, and on the boys side, that is Trinity Christian senior Alex Van Ginkel. Three runners enter the boys race ranked, while the girls race features three ranked runners, as well.
In Class 2A, Sheldon and Central Lyon/G-LR both travel to Orange City for a 14-team qualifying meet hosted by Trinity. G-LR senior Josh Schriever enters the boys race ranked 10th individually in the state by the Iowa Association of Track and Field Coaches. His classmate, Tyler Wessels comes in ranked 21st.
Spirit Lake, Sioux Center, and South Central Calhoun each enter the boys race with a ranked runner, while the site hosts a girls race that features four ranked runners, and all of them come from outside the Daily Globe coverage area.
The top 10 finishers and top three teams from each race advance to state, Nov. 2 in Fort Dodge.
