Iowa softball: Sheldon tops S-O; Wolves fall in extras
SHELDON, Iowa — Sheldon got on the sticks right away Tuesday in its season opener against Sibley-Ocheyedan, plating five runs in the first three innings en route to a 9-1 Siouxland Conference win.
Sami Kleinwolterink went all seven and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out six in the win. Tayler Wasmund surrendered just five earned runs and struck out seven during a complete game performance for S-O.
Mackensey Radke was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kleinwolterink added a 2-for-3 night at the plate to which she added two runs and another batted in while Sydney Iedema also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Makenzie Wolter was 1-for-3 with a run to lead the way for the Generals.
The Generals are back in action at 6:30 p.m. tonight in George against George-Little Rock/Central Lyon. Sheldon will host LeMars at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

HARTLEY, Iowa — Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 5-5 tie and steal a season-opening 6-5 heartbreaker from Harris-Lake Park.
The Wolves scored two runs in the sixth inning to knot the game and send it to extras.
Macy Gunderson went the distance for H-LP, allowing three earned runs and striking out one in the tough-luck loss. Miranda Brueggeman was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Blake Gunderson was also 2-for-4 with an RBI with Katherine Ihnen going 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
The Wolves will try to get on track at 6 p.m. tonight against Remsen St. Mary’s in Lake Park.
