IRWIN JAMES OLSON, age 83, of Worthington, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center. He was born June 4, 1930, in Sherman, SD, to Charles and Clara (Miller) Olson. Irwin grew up and attended school in Sherman, SD. He farmed and worked for Midwest Outdoor Advertising.
Irwin married Shirley Mae Arens on June 4, 1960 in Sioux Falls, SD.The couple lived in various towns before moving to Worthington in 1965. Irwin worked at Cunningham Outdoor Advertising. He retired in 1992.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Worthington. Irwin loved playing Bingo and traveling to casinos. He really enjoyed riding his scooter around Lake Okabena.
Irwin is survived by his wife, Shirley Olson, Worthington; four sisters, Dorthea (Francis) Tebben, Harrisburg, SD; Clarona (John) Lindner, Sioux Falls, SD; Charlotte (Arlin) Mueller, Sioux Falls, SD; and Mary Lou Hoiness, Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces & nephews; and Godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Agnes Tommeraasen; and a brother, Carroll "Snick" Olson.
A time of fellowship will be Thursday from 4-7 pm, with a parish prayer service at 6 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A Memorial Mass will be Friday at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Worthington, officiated by Fr. Jim Calahan. Burial of cremains will be at St. Mary Cemetery on June 4, 2014 on Irwins birthday and 54th wedding anniversary.
