Jack Allen Tomford

Jack Tomford was born on February 13, 1939 on a farm in Dovray Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Allen and Augusta Kunze Tomford. He grew up near Kinbrae, MN and attended Fulda School. On June 18, 1957 Jack enlisted in the United States Army. Following his discharge on September 9, 1958 he returned to the Kinbrae area. On June 11, 1961 he and Carol DeGroot were married at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN. Following their marriage they made their home in Fulda, MN where Jack worked in sales. They later moved to a farm near Bertha, MN where they raised their three sons and farmed. Jack retired in 1988 and they moved to Adrian, MN. In 2007 they returned to Fulda. Jack sold Christmas trees for over 23 years in the Worthington area. Jack was in sales all of his life he sold everything from Christmas trees to cars and tractors. Jack passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Medical Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 75. He attended the First Baptist Church in Worthington. He was a member of the El Riad Shrine in Sioux Falls, SD and the Slayton Masonic Lodge in Slayton. He enjoyed spending time with his family, collecting guns, gardening and cars especially Mustangs.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Tomford of Fulda, MN, three sons and their spouses, Bruce Tomford and Melanie Jurgensen of Fulda, MN, Scott and Michelle Tomford and their two children, Kyle and Jake Tomford of East Bethel, MN and Jesse and Liz Tomford and their three children, Allyson, Lane and Courtney Tomford of Stacy, MN, two siblings and their spouses, Marlys and Delmer Piepgras of Brooklyn Park, MN and Roland and Karol Tomford of Wadena, MN, one brother-in-law, Doug DeGroot and Lola Recher of Arnolds Park, IA, several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Karen Tomford, one brother, Clifford Kunze and his mother-in-law, Lauretta DeGroot.

Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church in Worthington, MN on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Brian Frodermann officiating. The pianist is Starr Standafer with special music by Lon Standafer. The pallbearers are Kyle Tomford, Jake Tomford, Tim Berglund, Joe Hornstein, Brad Kirckof, Larry Shelton and George Johnson. Interment is at Worthington Memorial Gardens in Worthington, MN. Military honors accorded by the Worthington American Legion Post and the Worthington VFW Post.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda, MN from 4-7 p.m. with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. To send condolences visit totzkefuneralhome.com
