"The county fair is an opportunity for our 4-H'ers to highlight the work that they've been doing for the past year," said Andrea Ruesch, Jackson County 4-H Program Coordinator. "There's a spirit of competition, a spirit of camaraderie and it's a great place to catch up with folks you might not have seen for a while."

New this year will be the free sweet corn feed starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, sponsored by the local Corn Cob Open committee and served at the 4-H food stand. Also new to the fair menu is the Philly cheese steak sandwich, offered at the 4-H food stand.

A series of events at the grandstand including concerts and a demolition derby will be complete with a competition of the Minnesota State Tractor Pull Association at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

Fairgoers may notice some expansions and improvements both in the shows and in the fairgrounds themselves.

The county's llama show, new last year, has expanded from one llama to three, and the 4-H horse barn has expanded to better accommodate the large number of horse entries Jackson County gets every year. The Lakefield Hunter 4-H club re-did the awards section in the Olson Pavilion, highlighting the past, present and future of Jackson County 4-H.

The county has a long tradition of livestock projects, with swine being the most popular category, though beef, sheep and goat projects are also well-received. The most popular general project areas are photography, creative arts and foods.

"There's something for everyone in the whole family at the Jackson County fair," Ruesch said.
