Jackson falls to Fairmont, earns No. 2 seed
FAIRMONT -- It's difficult to beat a good team twice.
Jackson's amateur baseball team made a good effort Sunday but couldn't accomplish the feat.
After defeating Fairmont 10-9 in Game 1, Jackson stranded the potential tying run at third base in a 6-5 loss in the nightcap.
"After winning the first game, we felt good going into the second," Jackson coach Scott Bahr said. "We played well, but it's tough to beat a good team twice in one day."
Both teams will advance to the regional playoffs. Top-seeded Fairmont will face Pipestone, and second-seeded Jackson will face Adrian in a five-game series.
The tournament schedule will be released today.
Blaise Jacobsen went 5-for-5 with a double, two RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases in the opener to lead Jackson, which held off a furious, ninth-inning comeback attempt by Fairmont, which scored six runs in its final frame.
Jacobsen went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, and Andy Wolf went 3-for-4 in the nightcap to lead Jackson, which scored four runs in its final inning.
In the Gopher League playoffs, Pipestone forfeited to Adrian, allowing Adrian to claim the No. 1 seed.
