Jasper man facing multiple rape charges in South Dakota
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- A Jasper man is facing nine counts of first-degree rape, according to court documents filed this week in Minnehaha County, S.D. Charges may also be pending in Minnesota, according to a spokesperson with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office.
Justin Steenstra, 24, is accused of raping two children under the age of 16 at least nine times, and is also facing 22 counts of criminal sexual contact against the same two individuals. The alleged contact took place over a nine month period in rural Minnehaha County near Brandon, S.D. Steenstra reportedly knew the victims through their families.
"We are working with other jurisdictions regarding the possibility of other victims in the Jasper area," the spokesperson said. "(Steenstra) has been arrested and is currently in custody."
Bond was set at $50,000 on the condition Steenstra have no contact with the victims, their families or any person under the age of 18. He is to abstain from the use of alcohol and submit to breath testing.
The arrest reportedly came after a referral from social services. Steenstra is scheduled to make a court appearance in Sioux Falls, S.D. on July 3.
