Justice Center prepares for Fraga trial
WORTHINGTON -- The halls of the Prairie Justice Center were strangely hushed this morning as attorneys prepared for last-minute motions and rulings in the Josue Fraga trial.
Fraga is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 2-year-old niece Samantha.
Tuesdays are normally bustling and busy in Nobles County District court, as it is usually the day traffic violations and driving while impaired charges are heard. But this morning, the hallways were virtually empty, with only a few people attending hearings on the docket in another court room.
More than 90 citizens of Nobles County are on the list as prospective jurors for the upcoming trial. Twelve of those people will be individually questioned this afternoon by attorneys from both sides to determine if they will be accepted as a juror. The questioning of jurors will continue until 14 people are chosen -- 12 jurors and two alternates.
The jury selection process is expected to last all week.
