KTD, from a bird's-eye view

By Turk O'Day, Guest Columnist

Unless it’s King Turkey Day weekend, I typically don’t stray too far from my pen. It’s far safer being a tame turkey, though occasionally I long for a life that’s a little bit on the wilder side.

0 Talk about it

Well, I just may have to be a wild turkey this weekend, at least in one sense. Skyway Helicopter, a company based in Sioux Falls, S.D., will offer helicopter rides Friday and Saturday at Nobles County Fairgrounds in conjunction with Worthington’s big weekend.

The rides, which will be available for a fee, will offer the rare opportunity to see Worthington from above, which I’ve been told is definitely something worth gobbling about.

I have it on good authority that someone from this newspaper will take photos from one of the helicopters. I may have to find a way to get on board, although I would certainly have to make sure all of my feathers are fastened securely.

Rides will be available on Saturday from 9 a.m. until dark at the fairgrounds grandstand. On Friday, rides will be from 5 p.m. until dark — one activity among many on King Turkey Day eve.

In fact, even if you’re a tad uneasy about going up in a helicopter, there will be plenty of other things to do Friday night at the fairgrounds. There’s a Giant Sandbox Treasure Hunt, Turkey Scavenger Hunt, pig races, a bean bag Tournament — I could go on. There’s even Zumba — can you imagine a turkey doing Zumba? (Paycheck would be well advised to do so; it would be a great workout in advance of Saturday’s big race.)

Hope to see a big crowd this weekend — whether you soar off the ground or keep your feet firmly on it.
