Larry Gene Boomgaarden
Larry Gene Boomgaarden, formerly of Ellsworth, MN, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of October 15 at his current home in Fredericksburg, TX. Memorial services are pending.
Larry was born Feb 24, 1942 in Adrian, MN. He was the eldest of 9 children born to George and Evelyn Boomgaarden of Ellsworth, MN. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1960. He enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged Dec 31, 1964.
He married Betty Sirois of Perth, New Brunswick, Canada in October of 1963. Together they had three children, Sherry, Michele, and Brian.
Larry worked for many years at Gestetner Business Machines and other similar corporations.
He inherited his father's gift for music. In high school he was a member of several local bands, acting as lead vocalist and guitarist. He sang, played and entertained throughout his entire life. He loved returning to his native Minnesota for his family's large reunions and threshing bees.
Larry married Susan Kallander on June 4, 2000. Together they shared a passion for travel and visited many significant locations in the US as well as Europe.
Larry also loved genealogy research and was an avid historian and record-keeper for his family. He loved high school baseball and eventually played for the Ellsworth American Legion Team. He had a passion for politics and never shied away from a spirited debate.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and little sister, Phyllis Ellen.
He is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Sherry (Conrad) Donell of Ayer, MA; Michele (Frank) Annaldo of Hampton, NH; and Brian Boomgaarden (Coleen) of Lancaster, MA, and several grandchildren. Also siblings Gail (Cliff) Richardson of Reno; Rosalie (Ken) Schmith of Fredericksburg, IA; Allen (Ina) Boomgaarden of Lake Chelan, WA; Dwight (Mona) Boomgaarden of Kenyon, MN; Randy (Cheryl) Boomgaarden of Marshall, MN; Kathy (Jim) Parsons of Ostrander, MN; Scott (Diane) Boomgaarden of Cannon Falls, MN. Also his beloved aunt Jean Oehlerts of Canton, SD (formerly of Ellsworth); and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
