Legion baseball: Worthington blanks Okabena

HERON LAKE -- Mitchell Baumhoefner went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and pitched three scoreless innings to help lead the Worthington American Legion baseball team to an 8-0 victory over Okabena Tuesday night.

Logan Rogers pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Worthington, while Deron Soderholm and Blake Rogers also pitched an inning apiece. Together, the Worthington pitchers combined to strike out eight batters and allow just two hits and four walks.

Soderholm and Nate Ray both had two hits and an RBI for Worthington, while Jordan Bertand, Alex Purdy, Tristan Sorensen, Lucas Henning and Tyler Hatterman each added a base hit.

Justin Jass had both of Okabena's hits (single, double) and also pitched the final two frames. Luke Henkels pitched the first five innings for the home team.

Worthington (7-2) plays Pipestone in Pipestone Friday night (8 p.m.) in the opening round of a tournament hosted by Pipestone and Luverne. Okabena (0-3) hosts Jackson Friday.
