Leona Margaret Kremer
Leona Kremer was born on October 10, 1920 on the family farm in Iona Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Thomas and Florence Dahlhoff Scully. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Columba High School in 1938. Leona then attended Mankato Teachers College graduating in 1941. Leona taught in a country school in Murray County and later at the Slayton Elementary School. On June 25, 1946 she and Ervin Kremer were married at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN. Following their marriage they farmed near Fulda, MN until 1948 when they moved to a farm south of Iona and raised their 13 children. They retired in 1991 but remained on the farm. Ervin passed away on October 17, 1994. Leona remained on the farm until 1998 when she moved to Iona. In November 2003 Leona moved to Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton. In 2011 Leona became a resident at the Golden Living Center-Slayton for a short time before moving to Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN. Leona passed away there on March 3, 2014 at the age of 93. She was a life long member of St. Columba Church where she was active in the W.C.C.W. Leona also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Iona VFW Auxiliary. Leona enjoyed history and was the family and community historian. Leona enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, traveling and reading.
Survivors include her 12 children and their spouses, Jeanne and Michael Cleary of Wichita, KS, Joan and John Retelle of Arlington, VA, James and Roxanne Kremer of Wilmont, MN, Glenn and Barbara Kremer of Worthington, MN, Mary and Bill Paulzine of Fulda, MN, David and Debra Kremer of Iona, MN, Patrick and Lisa Kremer of Iona, MN, Ann and Stephen Bastian of Dayton, OH, Ronald and Sandra Kremer of Iona, MN, Alice and Rodney Spartz of Iona, MN, Rita Kremer Joffe of Parker, CO and Lois and Simon Chandler of LaGrange, KY, daughter-in-law, Judy Kremer of Fulda, MN, 40 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one sister, Alice Knutson of Slayton, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ervin, son, John, two brothers, James and Joseph Scully and three sisters, Rosella Steinman, Eileen Toussaint and Florence Nemmers.
Funeral services will be at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. James Seitz officiating. Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery in Iona, MN.
