Leroy Willard Wasmund

LeRoy Willard Wasmund, age 81, was born March 21, 1932, the son of Irving (Pete) and Elizabeth DeVries Wasmund in Worthington, MN. He grew up and attended country school through the 8th grade in Nobles County, MN. LeRoy farmed with his father until his father retired. He married Geneva Wagar on September 28, 1950, and continued farming until 1958. They then moved to Yakima, WA where he worked at the Libbys plant. After one year they returned to Rushmore, MN and moved onto the Wasmund homestead where they farmed and milked cows. In 1968, they sold the farm and moved to Worthington and he drove truck for Nobles County Coop, Western Coop, and Consolidated Coop until he retired in 1999. He was an avid bowler, bowling on league for many years and also enjoyed tractor pulls. LeRoy died on Saturday March 1, 2014, at the South Shore Care Center in Worthington, MN.

LeRoy is survived by his wife, Geneva; four sons, Douglas (Karen) of Worthington, MN, Thomas (Susan) of Rochester, MN, Dennis (Kimberly) of Sioux Falls, SD, and Todd (Nancy) of Brandon, SD; nine grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Arlene Wibbens of Worthington, MN, and one sister-in-law, Phyllis Wasmund of San Jacinto, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Floyd Wasmund, and one sister, Viola Meinders.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Irwin VanLeeuwen officiating. Casket bearers will be Matthew Wasmund, Jason Wasmund, Nate Wasmund, Chris Wasmund, Dusty Wasmund, and Josh Schroeder. Burial will be in the Elk Brethren Cemetery near Reading, MN.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN.
