Letter: City should invest in Beach Nook
Centennial Park is a place where young families can have wholesome activities and enjoy the lake. Young men and women play basketball and volleyball, and yes, stay out of trouble. The Beach Nook has been a great source of refreshments for the people that gather at the park, or just walk through.
I think the city should pay someone to operate it instead of making it impossible for an individual to break even by charging a vendor fee, lease and maintaining a clean beach and bathrooms. When reading city council remarks about this building, I could not believe a council person suggest we blow it up to get rid of it!
An indoor pool was built, which has been proven not to be big enough, and a senior center built so older citizens can play cards in a basement. Why not spend some money to save a business that can be enjoyed by all ages?
