Letter: Disc golf event had excellent support
By the The Worthington Area Foundation Board of Directors
On Saturday, July 26, the Worthington Area Foundation hosted its first Disc Golf Fundraising event. The board of the Foundation was proud to be affiliated with Ben and Bryan Doeden, two Worthington High School students who ingenuously came up with the idea in an effort to develop and complete a 4-H leadership project. Sponsors for each hole were secured as were donations for door prizes. The board was thrilled to learn that after expenses were paid the event raised over $3,000 for the Worthington Area Foundation.
The Worthington Area Foundation was developed to help make Worthington an even better place to live and work by awarding grants to worthy non-profit organizations and projects. Our most recent focus has been a matching fund challenge in which we need to secure $20,000 by this November to be able to be given the matching $20,000 from a generous Worthington family. Our board has been working to help inform area residents and businesses about this opportunity and brainstorming fundraising efforts to meet the goal; thus, this fundraising event gave residents an awareness of the foundation and its mission.
The applications for grants to non-profit agencies will be available on Aug. 20 at the Chamber of Commerce office and online at www.wgtnareafoundation.org. The applications will be due on Oct. 6 and awarded in November.
Again, thanks to all the hole sponsors, the donors of door prizes and participants for this fundraiser. If you would like more information about the Worthington Area Foundation, the challenge grant and how you can help reach the goal, please contact one of our board members listed below.
