Letter: Elected officials ignored constituents on bailout vote
These are times that try men's souls. This is especially so when Bush and our House and Senate leadership have been selling the anti-constitutional bailout using fear itself.
Senators and congressmen who voted for the bailout admitted their constituents were overwhelmingly opposed to the bailout. But they justified their vote by saying their constituents didn't understand the gravity of the financial crisis, hence their cowardly vote for the bailout. The constituents had it right, and the political leaders refused to vote on the basis of representing their people. Instead, they voted for the interests of the international financial oligarchy.
FDR had it right: The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Newspaper employees around the country should be getting the pungent smell of this anti-constitutional bailout.
