Letter: Employer must take housing responsibility
I believe the time has come to recognize the root of the housing problem in Worthington. The largest employer in the area wants to continue to hire more and more people knowing there is not sufficient housing available. In an effort to increase housing, the employer is looking to churches, community leaders, politicians and anyone else it can find. If a solution is to be found, the employer should accept responsibility for the problem and internally develop a solution, and stop looking to others for an answer to a problem it created.
It is unacceptable and perhaps illegal to house "up to 25 people into a two- or three-bedroom house." I hope city officials will enforce city zoning and housing laws in view of this acknowledged overcrowding.
Obviously, the community should do what it can. However, the responsible party should demonstrate it is doing all it can and only hire employees based on housing availability.
