Letter: Meet the newest student from Crailsheim
By Lars Opaczek, Crailsheim exchange student to Worthington
Hello, my name is Lars Opaczek and I’m the new Crailsheim exchange student for the year 2013-2014. I’m 17 years old and now a senior at WHS.
I was very excited to come here, but I also was a little bit afraid, wondering what I would do if I didn’t like it here, so far away from home. There is no way back!
John and I arrived in Minneapolis on the 8th of August. My guest mom and guest sister picked us up from the airport. The first thing I did in America after an 11-hour flight was to go to Burger King to eat something. It tasted awesome.
After I had something to eat, we started to drive home. On our way home, we stopped at John’s grandparents’ house. I already met them when they visited John in Germany, and it was nice to see them again. I also met some of my new cousins. They were really nice to me; we talked to each other, had fun and I started to feel like being a part of this family.
The next week I started football practice and I met so many nice, helpful, friendly and funny kids. I’ve never played football before so it was totally new for me, but it was a lot of fun and that was when it was about 90 degrees outside and the sun burned in our faces.
One week later, school began. For me school is really fun because I have a nice schedule, nice teachers and nice people around me.
I am having a nice time here in Worthington. I have also done some other cool stuff like shopping at the Mall of America, having fun at Valleyfair, watching a musical and hanging out with my friends.
I would like say thank you to my guest family, the Martins, my new friends and also all the other people I have met here. You all are making my time here great! I’m also looking forward to meeting more people, spending time with them, sharing with them things about my home and so on.
