Letter: Observe adoption awareness month
My husband and I began foster parenting soon after our wedding and within 12 years we have been blessed and challenged to parent 12 children, now ages 10-23. Because it is my passion to find homes for the children who wait, I take time each November to remind people to celebrate Adoption Awareness Month and to consider adoption. We believe that there are other great people across Minnesota who could provide the loving, structured homes that children waiting for permanency need to find.
There are currently more than 130,000 children legally free for adoption in the United States who wait for a family to call their own. Adoptive parents don't need a large income or to own a home. They may be married or single. Most agencies require you to be at least 21 years of age. Depending on a child's particular needs, exceptions are occasionally made. Adoption and foster care social workers are seeking people with "real life" experience and the ability to cope with challenges; they are not looking for perfection.
In order to encourage others to adopt, two orientations are being scheduled in Mankato on Nov. 19 and in Worthington on Nov. 30. We encourage individuals who have adopted or who are interested in adoption. You can learn more about our story at www.outofmanyonefamily.com.My e-mail is email@example.com or call (507) 779-1386.
Thank you for your interest in celebrating the gift of adoption and providing permanency for children who wait.
