Letter: Support our farmers' markets
Tonight my husband and I enjoyed grilled chicken with a fresh rosemary rub, grilled sweet corn with cilantro butter and yellow beans with fresh basil. Sounds like something served in a fine restaurant in a big city, but we dined at home tonight.
I'm not a fancy cook, but I do enjoy watching the food channels on TV. I've always wanted to try the recipes on these shows -- especially during the summer grilling season -- but was never able to find really fresh produce and the herbs recommended. Last week on my way home from work, I discovered the local farmers' market in Worthington. I was amazed at the variety of fresh produce, herbs, breads and other delicious foods sold by local independent producers. My "fridge" is now stocked, and I'll not miss a Tuesday or Saturday market for the rest of the summer. My only regret is that there are not enough days in a week to try everything that is available!
Thanks to the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and local businesses for sponsoring these opportunities, and thanks to all of the local producers who participate. I encourage our community to enjoy the delights of the summer season by shopping at the local farmers' markets.
