Letter: Worthington Chamber should remove non-U.S. flags
What a wonderful way of celebrating Independence Day in America. I am speaking of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce's flying the foreign flag display in America on American soil and again on "our" Independence Day.
What a slap in the face for the citizens of the United States of America. Perhaps you do not know or have ever said the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. So, to refresh your memory, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Please note that only one flag is mentioned or spoken about. It is the American flag, and no other.
So, if the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce is trying to promote Americanism, flying of foreign flags in America and on American soil and especially on "our" Independence Day, it is wrong. So whose Independence Day are you trying to promote or celebrate?
If you are trying to promote Americanism, why not teach all our immigrated people that live here and in the local area to read, write and speak English, live by our rules and regulations and to abide by our laws?
I, like thousands of combat veterans, have our blood, sweat and tears on foreign soil. The best and the most important part of our lives was spent on keeping our soil safe from foreign aggression. Flying foreign flags on American soil is a no-no. Thousands of Americans gave their lives for our flag, and our flag only -- for our freedom and our Independence Day.
With all respect of the American citizens, and to the veterans of America and the flag of the United States of America, I am kindly asking you to take down all your foreign flags immediately. It is our Independence Day, and our Independence Day is 365 days a year.
Thank you, and your consideration would be greatly appreciated.
