Letters: Health, human service cuts are ill-advised
NAMI Minnesota is deeply disappointed with the cuts being proposed to the health and human services budget at the state capitol. Mental health funding has been cut more than $60 million the past several years -- this from a system that everyone agrees is fragile and underfunded.
We had hoped that we could have made some investments in programs that work this year -- such as school-linked mental health grants and mental health crisis services -- but with these budget targets we know that won't happen. The health and human services budget helps children and adults with mental illnesses, or with disabilities and the elderly. We cannot continue to cut funding from this area.
