ST. JAMES — The Luverne High School girls tennis team lost a pair of matches in an all-doubles tournament at St. James Wednesday.

The Cardinals fell to Sibley East 5-3 and to St. James 8-0. A scheduled match with Maple River was rained out.

Luverne’s three victories over Sibley East came at first, sixth and eighth doubles. Paige Adams and Kynzie Smedsrud defeated East’s Ella Lundstrom and Breann Walsh 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Samantha Pierce and Joci Oye topped East’s Rachel Davis and Sierra Allison 7-6(7-5), 6-3. And Kennedy Gonnerman and Brianna Wessels were 6-2, 6-0 winners over East’s Rebecca Davis and Mikayla Holms.

Altogether, LHS head coach Greg Antoine said his team performed sluggishly after the long ride to the tournament.

“We played like we just rode a bus for one and a half hours and stepped off and played the matches,” he said.
