Little Rock Corn Show is Thursday through Sunday

LITTLE ROCK, Iowa — The northwest Iowa community of Little Rock is celebrating its 67th annual Corn Show Thursday through Sunday with the theme, “Looking Back at Life in a Small Town.”

Entries of flowers, crops and produce will be accepted tomorrow, with the Miss Little Rock and Little Miss Little Rock Queen Contest to begin at 7 p.m. under the big tent. Bingo games will follow with cash prizes awarded to winners. Other events are as follows:

FRIDAY 1 p.m.: Kids Races, one-half block south of the school

5:30 p.m. “Teach Boys” of George, entertainment in the tent

7 p.m.: Button Drawing in the tent with hundreds of prizes awarded

SATURDAY 7:30 a.m.: Registration begins for the 25-mile bike ride or 3-mile walk, Town & Country Park. The walk and ride begin at 8 a.m.

10:30 a.m.: Pedal Pull, south of the Presbyterian Church

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Pork dinner, served at City Hall

1:30 p.m.: 13th annual Golf Ball Roll

2 p.m.: Corn Show Parade

5:30 p.m.: Gloria Jean Wieneke, entertainment in the tent

7 p.m.: Button drawing in the tent with hundreds of prizes awarded

9 p.m. to midnight: Teen dance, south of the old City Hall

SUNDAY 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Omelet and German pancake brunch, City Hall

10 a.m.: Joint church services in the tent with the Gospel Gold Quartet to perform

Noon: Co-Ed sand volleyball tournament, Town & Country Park

1 p.m.: Bean bag tournament, Town & Country Park

1 p.m.: Antique tractor pull, Town & Country Park

2 p.m.: Soap box derby, starting at the water tower

McDermott Carnival will be set up on Main Street and operating by late Friday afternoon and Saturday after the parade. Food stands will be open Thursday through Saturday at the old City Hall.
