Lorenzen named NAC Male Athlete of the Week

WORTHINGTON -- Former Pipestone Area athlete Micah Lorenzen is running cross country at Concordia University in Wisconsin.

He was named the North Atlantic Conference Male Athlete of the Week for his recent run at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, where he placed 19th out of 595 runners with a time of 26 minutes, 29 seconds for the 8,000-meter race.

Veldhuizen playing volleyball at Dordt College

Larissa Veldhuizen, a former athlete at Pipestone Area, recorded 15 kills as the Dordt volleyball team defeated Concordia of Seward, Neb., last Friday. On Saturday, she added nine more kills against the University of Sioux Falls. Dordt has won 16 of its last 17 matches, and is now ranked 21st in the recent NAIA national rankings.

Jillian Tholen (T-M-B) and the Augustana women's cross country team is preparing for the regional championship meet Saturday in Wayne, Neb.

Anthony Drealan (Fulda), who runs cross country for Dakota State University in Madison, S.D., placed 16th in the Dakota Athletic Conference meet in Minot, N.D., Oct. 20. His time of 27:13 over the 8K course left him one place out of all-conference recognition (top 15).

Dan Walhof (SWC) and Lee Stover (Adrian), a pair of cross country runners at Northwestern (Iowa), finished 28th (27:48) and 73rd (30:12) at the GPAC championship meet (8K) last Saturday. The Red Raiders finished seventh in the team standings with 186 points.

Devin Van't Hof (Southwest Christian) and Thomas Christensen (Luverne) also ran in the GPAC championship Saturday. Van't Hof, a member of the Dordt team, finished 51st with a time of 29:04. Christensen, who runs for Sioux Falls, was 52nd with a time of 29:07.

Jeff Karschnik (Windom) passed for 163 yards (16-for-27) and four touchdowns to lead the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars (7-2) to a 27-20 victory over Rockford last Friday night at the Metrodome.

Southwest Minnesota State's football team (4-5) lost 23-15 to Bemidji State Saturday. Levi Bullerman (Adrian) made seven tackles and forced a fumble for the Mustangs. Zach Wysong (Hills) also plays for the Mustangs.

The Augustana football team (5-4) lost 34-28 to Central Washington Saturday. Craig Bosch (Luverne, four tackles) and Joe Klumper (Worthington) play for the Vikings.

The Northwestern (Iowa) football team improved to 8-1 with a 41-7 victory over Briar Cliff on Saturday. Jordan Menning and Reed Van Hulzen (both Edgerton) play for the Red Raiders.

The South Dakota State football team defeated the University of California-Davis, 22-21, Saturday for its fifth straight victory. Casey Knips (Adrian) plays for the Jackrabbits, who are now 5-3.

Jamie Claussen (Pipestone Area) has 222 digs, 152 kills, 47 set assists and 30 blocks for the Boise State volleyball team (9-13).

Megan Wendorff (Windom) has 422 kills, 66 blocks, 50 digs and 47 set assists for the Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team (25-7).

Erin Boeve (H-BC) has 257 kills, 130 blocks and 40 digs for the Iowa State Cyclones volleyball team (15-7).

Kati Newgard (Pipestone Area) has 133 kills, 54 digs and 33 blocks for the Augustana volleyball team (13-13).

Kelli Luitjens (Worthington) has 238 kills, 82 blocks and 37 digs for the Buena Vista volleyball team (16-16).

Josh Laffen (Worthington) and the Buena Vista men's soccer team finished the season with a 4-14-1 record. Laffen put eight shots on goal in 11 games played.
